Rebecca is passionate about school safety and gender advocacy. For the past 3 years, she has founded & directed Hydra Hacks: the West's Coast's largest hackathon for marginalized genders (5000+). With a team of 3 girls, Rebecca developed SIREN: a novel, patent-pending gunshot detector and communicator to reduce response times in school shootings. Currently, Rebecca works to promote equitable access to STEM opportunities through advising the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.

In 2023, applicants were tasked with creating a Swift Playgrounds app project on the topic of your choice to showcase their passion for coding. Here’s how Rebecca describes her winning submission.

My playground Dare To Dream showcases ten prominent women in technology throughout history and today to inspire and empower young women interested in pursuing a career in tech. By clicking on each name, the user can explore popups that highlight the background, work, and awards of each trailblazer. Finally, the app generates fun facts about gender parity and the ongoing push to close the gender gap in technology.
